We are member of the Fraunhofer Group for Life Sciences

The Fraunhofer Group for Life Sciences (VLS) is a scientific-technological community of highly qualified experts from key areas of modern life sciences. The Life Sciences Group was founded in mid-2001 by the Fraunhofer Institutes IBMT, IGB, IME and ITEM. The innovative strength of the Gropu is based on the scientific competence as well as the commitment and creativity of its employees and develops significantly through dialogue with our cooperation partners in the industry. The bundling of its complementary competencies results in a broad spectrum of methods and services.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Marine Biotechnology and Cell Technology has been a member of the VLS since 2008 and concentrates primarily on cell-based and aquatic technology development.

Preclinical Models

Data from preclinical tests are essential for making decisions about efficacy and safety. The information obtained as a result of these tests plays a key role in all subsequent decisions. In order to make preclinical drug development as successful as possible, preclinical models are needed that reflect the patient's situation with high precision. For this reason, the Fraunhofer Group for Life Sciences is concentrating, among other innovative approaches, on the development of human 3D test models and living tissue sections. With its portfolio of organotypic model and test systems, the Fraunhofer EMB contributes to the expansion of the service spectrum.
